Dragonball Online Review
Dragonball Online Review

Because of the high popularity of the original Dragon Ball comics, the MMO version has attracted a lot of attentions from players all over the world. Although the game has been announced two years ago, it is just fully presented to players this time.

Dragon Ball Online

This test lasted for only three days and the servers were available for a limited time. Plus, the game is Korean version, which may cause some misunderstandings for the game experience, so please forgive us if this report says something wrong.(Due to the time limitation of the test, We just take a try of Human’s Wushu Master and Namekian’s Namek Dragon.)

Dragon Ball Online

Dragon Ball Online

Summary

DragonBall Online offers three playable races and 6 classes. Players can earn Exp to level up, while the Exp increase is connected with basic status and skill points. Each class possesses a unique skill tree and respective class feature will become more striking in pace with the development of a character.

Like other online games, in DragonBall Online, players can move around the world by using the W, A, S, D keys or just by using their mouse and jump by hitting the Space key. The character won’t suffer any damage when jumping from a high position.

Dragon Ball Online
Quest System

Right click on an enemy and operate the Shortcut Bar to begin a combat. The current game version has provided a variety of powerful skills, including attack skill, healing skill and buff assistant skills.

Also, the quest system is the main guide throughout the game. In the beginning, players can level up smoothly according to the instruction of the quest system. After achieving a certain level, players don’t need to do all quests but they can also make progress as usual.

Dragon Ball Online
Emote System

The game servers are listed in the form of Channel and a same server is divided into different channels. PK won’t be initiated until both sides make a confirmation. Apart from that, the emote system provides rich emotes and actions. Other functions such as guild system, dice roll, setting a stall are all accessible at the beginning of the game. Even equipment enhancement and much more basic elements of a MMORPG can be found in DragonBall Online.

Apparently, DragonBall Online is a true MMORPG from the above introduction. However, what does it differ from other online games? Where is our eager DragonBall world? Don’t miss the key points below.

Dragon Ball Online
Equipment Enhancement

Dragon Ball Online
World Map

In this close beta test, three races have been set in the game: Humans, Namekians and Majins. Please note that Humans here is the cross-breed of humans and Saiyans. Except Namekians, the other two races provide a gender selection. Besides, hairstyle, hair color, skin color and eye shapes can all be customized.

Players can choose a Wushu class or a Qigong class while creating a character. Due to different races, the same classes are named differently in each race. For example, the two classes in the Namekian race are called Namek Warrior and Namek Dragon, but Omajin and Gimajin in the Majin race. Therefore, there are three races and six classes in the game.

When a character is born, it looks like a baby, whether it is resulted from its low level or not, there is no special explanation in this test. Maybe its appearance will change when a character grows up.

Dragon Ball Online

Humans

Born in the earth and cultivated in different culture backgrounds, human warriors with strong abilities, qigong masters and mechanical engineers are living in different areas all over the earth.

Wushu Master – With sturdy body and high speed, they can launch fierce frontal attacks. Compared with qigong, such attacks can generate tremendous power in a minute and even enhance the characters’ state. Wushu masters may transfer to be a wrestler or swordsman in the future with the increase of their level.

Qigong Master – Excels at controlling Qi and attacking afar. When hitting a certain level, they can transfer to be a Tsuru-Sen-Nin skilled in new Tsuru-Sen-Ryu type of continuous onslaught, or a Kame-Sen-Nin skilled in new Kame-Sen-Ryu type of attack causing mighty damage instantly.

Namekians

Gentle as they are, Namekians love peace. After their homeland was destroyed, they migrated to another planet-Earth. Being hateful of modern life, they reside in deserted areas and raise valiant warriors and psychic dragon descendant.

Namek Warrior – Inheriting Piccolo Daimao’s super attack and defense abilities, they can transfer to be a Makai Defender focusing on defense or a Madou warrior focusing on attacks after they reach a high level.

Namek Dragon – They are an exiguous branch of Namekians clan with strong healing and summoning ability. They can transfer to protective Dende Tutor good at assistance or Boco Tutor good at assaulting via command of dragons in the future.

Majins

It is a race created by Bibidi. Majins are dedicated to making earth inhabitants live a happy life so they work in various parks and restaurants. They like happy journey, and are fond of inventing and cooking delicious food, but they are also classified into gentle Omajin and gloomy Gimajin.

Omajin – Having a full figure, they can ease off enemies’ attack easily. They enjoy pleasant environments. When growing up to a certain level, they can transfer to be a musician good at using musical instruments or a cook fighting with food and cooking utensils.

Gimajin – Because of sad experiences in the past, their mentality is marked by antipathy and gloom. They can hurt enemies of an area through using qigong and cast debuff onto the opponents. After reaching a required level, they can transfer to a Burazuma best at qigong attack and casting debuff or a Garuma having both attack and defense.

As illustrated, the game interface looks quite pleasing and human-friendly. Each function is arranged compactly and all kinds of necessary MMORPG elements are contained. Players who have played MMORPG before may find this game easy to operate. For instance, press I key to bring up inventory window, C key for character info window. Sadly, each window cannot be dragged randomly as one likes. However, players can set shortcut keys at random, which is rather considerate.

Dragon Ball Online

The map design is also friendly. Players can acquire a lot of information from a map. Circles indicate the places where your quest can be finished. For the region you haven’t set foot in, a route will be displayed to guide you how to get there.

Stores and NPCs are also showed in the map with corresponding icons. S indicates the locations of Skill Masters. In DragonBall Online, players must pay them for learning skills.

Combat System

With regard to combat, we didn’t know how to control at first until we spent much time reading Korean help files and operated in the game. As shown by the picture, each character has three indication bars: HP, EP and RP. For most players, they are familiar with HP and EP, which are the same with Health Points and Mana Points. Whereas, RP is specially designed in DragonBall, which indicates the character’s mental state, it is also equal to Rage Points. RP will be accumulated during a combat. If players complete designated quests, skills that need RP will also be upgraded.

Dragon Ball Online

Every time RP reaches the maximum value, RP balls will appear under the RP bar. If players throw RP ball together with using skills, extra skill effects will be produced, different bonuses will be added to different skills. For example, RP balls will increase the power of an attack skill and extend the effective time of a buff skill.

Dragon Ball Online
RP Balls

With the upgrade of a skill level, some new effects can be created. In a real battle, if you intend to cast RP balls, press the skill key for one second, a window will pop up to show the options of extra effect icons. Additionally, players can set the extra effect in the skill window in advance. Thus, players can instantly release the effect they want while fighting.

Dragon Ball Online
RP will decrease gradually after combat, so you should make a plan on how to use RP efficiently while using corresponding skills.

One of human wrestlers’ basic skills is Jan Fist. Using RP balls can increase the power of such skill and reduce the consumption of EP. After the skill level goes up, some debuff effects will also be generated, which is of great help for improving combat efficiency.

Dragon Ball Online
Jan Fist

Furthermore, RP has other uses, such as for HTB Skills. It is a pity that we haven’t learnt that kind of skills during the test period. Take Kamehameha for example, it must take much time and practice to learn that deadly skill, so we cannot share the experience about it at present.

Up to six RP balls can be stored at a time, when casting a HTB skill, the number of used RP balls will affect the success rate of the combat, so players should think carefully and make overall arrangement.

Episode: In the loading scene, whoever collects all dragon balls will become a Super Saiyan… So imaginative! Whether it will be presented in the final game version, or RP balls and HTB skills may have something to do with Super Saiyans…we’ve no idea.

This game will truly be interesting, what I am wondering is if every player goes around and searches for dragon balls, once they have it they have to fight other people for theirs, and once they have them all they can make a wish to become a saiyan or something. Thats most likely the least case scenario, but something like that would be a cool addition, but it should be made for everyone to have a chance with hard a little devotion.
